10 Love Your Body Quotes to Inspire Self-Love
1. “It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.” — Gabourey Sidibe
Comparison. We’re all guilty of it. There was a time when I was on social media and I could NOT help but feel terrible about myself. There were women who were younger, older, taller, and skinnier than me and I started comparing myself to anyone and everyone. But when you do this, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. You can only compare yourself to yourself. As a natural instinct, we love to compare. It’s HARD to get out of this mentality, HOWEVER, when I started working on myself and creating love for my body, I was able to break free from comparison.
2. “I say this for any other person whose appearance has been changed with time, illness or circumstance — it’s okay to live in your present body without treating it as transitional. I am, and I’m really enjoying it.” — Lena Dunham
I say this to my clients ALL the time. Enjoy your body now – be happy with your current body. Appreciate what your body can do because of ALL that it has gone through. If you’re on a nutrition and fitness journey, your present body deserves as much love as your “end result” body. Think about it like this. Your present body is putting in ALL the work so it deserves ALL the praise.
3. “[Y]esterday I decided to fight the f**k back. Reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally.” — Sam Smith
What makes us unique is what makes us stand apart and THIS is what should be perceived as beautiful. We aren’t meant to look the same. There’s a big movement towards females having multiple surgeries to look like a Kardashian. Now if you don’t know who the Kardashians are, you may live under a rock, but I wouldn’t mind joining you. What we seem to forget is that these celebrities are having surgeries to achieve the “perfect” look. Essentially, we’re all trying to achieve whatever society deems as “perfection.” When we can all take a step back and realize that we are beautiful because of WHO WE ARE, even with our quirky “flaws,” the world would truly be a better, kinder place.
4. “We’ve forgotten what a regular body looks like. There are people out there who are struggling, and I’m struggling, and it’s okay to come to terms with realizing it’s going to be a bit of a journey.” — Chrissy Teigen
It IS a journey. Learning to love yourself will take time. I teach my clients to repeatedly work on telling themselves that they LOVE their body… out loud. It can take several years to wash out the negativity you have for yourself, but the journey is well worth it.
5. “I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11… I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt more free creatively and physically.” — Jamie Lee Curtis
Unfortunately, this is the reality for many people. They started feeling “bad” about themselves when they were just children. I know I did and I know there are many people that can relate to this. Well today, I want you to give your inner child a BIG HUG. Start to heal that relationship with yourself. Building a strong foundation of self-love will determine how you speak to yourself, the confidence you have, and the love you can have for others.
6. “Don’t waste so much time thinking about how much you weigh. There is no more mind-numbing, boring, idiotic, self-destructive diversion from the fun of living.” — Meryl Streep
I mean… Meryl said it best. Our weight isn’t our worth. I know most of you think of memories in your life only to remember just how much you weighed; your wedding day, your honeymoon, the day you graduated high school. We associate our weight with our happiness, BUT our happiness was NOT created from what we weighed that day. It was the memory of the event, occasion, or holiday with the people we love. VOW today to never associate a GREAT memory with how much you weigh.
7. “People often say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder.” — Salma Hayak
YOU are the beholder. You can deem that you are beautiful, not society or a Facebook comment from a distant friend, YOU have the power. You are in control of HOW you feel. Don’t allow others to dictate how you feel. We cannot control what is said to us, BUT we can control HOW it affects us and our actions preceding that. I know, I know. Easier said than done, but wouldn’t you like to be your own beholder?
8. “I’ve made peace with the fact that the things that I thought were weaknesses or flaws were just me. I like them.” — Sandra Bullock
As discussed previously, we feel like celebrities are above it all, have no flaws and are confident in the way they look. But Sandra brings awareness to the fact that celebrities are just like us. They have flaws and insecurities just like we do. This is a great reminder that our perception of being a celebrity must relieve all your stress and worries is wrong. Celebrities fight the same ideas and thoughts about their bodies and have to go on a journey of self-love just like we do.
9. “Be happy in your own skin. If you are unhealthy, start by making small changes to become healthier. You are unique, beautiful, and worthy.” — Octavia Spencer
Here lies the truth. You can FEEL empowered by changing your way of thinking, BUT investing in your health and making changes to your lifestyle will help you to be happy within your own skin. There is something to be said about eating healthy and exercising for your health, NOT for a specific weight. Once you know you are investing in your body, you truly FEEL better and genuinely want to continue investing in your wellbeing.
10. “Your words have so much power. Every day, if you tell yourself, ‘I love you,’ if you give yourself one word of validation, it will change your mind.” — Ashley Graham
If there is one habit I want you to start working on immediately, it’d be to look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself, “I love you.” THIS IS HARD. I’ve had clients say for the first few times they said it in the mirror, they couldn’t look at themselves. Why? They feel embarrassed, ashamed, and/or sad. They can’t imagine a life loving their bodies, let alone themselves. But the validation that you receive from this statement will slowly change your mind and create a comforting, happy, and safe space for yourself. I know it may seem unattainable now, but within time, you will change your life.
I truly hope this helped you in some shape or form and I hope you can start your self-love journey after reading this post.
